Introduction to Image Transfers

Instructor: Rea Lynn de Guzman

 

Class Dates: Saturday & Sunday, March 17 & 18, 2018 (2 Class Meetings)
Class Time: 2:00 - 5:00 PM

 

In this workshop, students will learn how to transfer both colored inkjet and black & white laser prints onto various surfaces including fabric and paper. The instructor will demonstrate how to prepare black & white laser prints using matte medium, how to layer surfaces with water based media, and how to transfer colored inkjet and black & white laser prints onto prepared surfaces. Students will experiment with these techniques in class, leave with a small collection of samples and the ability to continue working with these processes at home.

Landscape Painting Workshop

Class Dates: 3 class meetings/ Wednesdays, April 4, 11, and 25, 2018 (no class April 18)
Class Time: 2:00 - 5:00 PM

 

In this three-day workshop, students will learn how to paint landscapes with acrylic paint using a photo resource as reference. The first part of the class will focus on color theory, drawing, and underpainting with monochromatic tones to understand value and space. Afterwards, students will layer their landscape paintings in color and finish it in full detail.

Experimental Painting with Image Transfers

Class Dates: 5 Class Meetings/ Saturdays, April 7 - May 5, 2018
Class Time: 1:00 - 4:00 PM

 

This class explores an interdisciplinary approach to art-making through the transition between acrylic painting and image transfers. The first part of the class will go over surface preparations, acrylic mediums and the intrinsic properties of acrylic paint. The second part of the class focuses on layering acrylic paintings with image transfer techniques. Students will use non-toxic materials compatible with acrylics, such as inkjet decals and laser image transfers with matte and gel mediums. Emphasis will be placed on continuous experimentation and combinations of techniques. Beginner and experienced painters are welcome.
